Student of the Month: Bill McLaughlin introduced our Students of the Month.
Lyme/Old Lyme: Teacher Bill Rayder introduced Anthony Romeo who is a can do,
energetic person involved in everything and getting others to participate. Anthony
plans to go th WPI majoring in engineering.
Old Saybrook: Asst. Principal Tara Winch introduced Mary Kate Czepiel an all
around great student involved in many activities. Mary Kate plans to go to BU majoring
in biology with an emphasis on pre-med.
Old Saybrook Interact Club Presentation: Gerri Lewis intoduced Amber Scherber,
advisor to the club and Gabrielle Carvajal president of the club.
Gaby indicated that the club has about 30 active members and involved in many projects.
This last year the club helped out in 2 soup kitchen projects in Old Lyme from 7:30 AM
till 11:30 AM. They sold flowers as a fundraiser at both O.S. High School school
musicals. They did a bake sale during the Saybrook Stroll in the fall and ran a snack
bar at the variety show, They also collected all kinds of "stuff" to support service
projects, such as soda bottle/can caps and tabs, clothing and books. They did the
Penquin Pledge Plunge raising money for Special Olympics. Two students also
attended the RYLA conferences as well as the Whitewater Conference in Wisconsin.
They helped out at the Estuary Chair Sale project, the project raised $19K for the
Senior Center! Some of the things being discussed and planned for next year are
the "Phoenix Project" (collecting clothing), participating in Meals On Wheels, work on
cleaning up the cemetary by the railroad station (maybe building a shed to house the
gardening tools etc.), John Donnelly indicated we may be able to get a matching grant
to help defray the cost of the shed and tools.
Gaby indicated she plans to got to George Washington University majoring in Int'l Affairs.
Announcements:
Keith indicated he is in the final planning stage for his term next year planning the
budget, etc, Board members will be participating in this with him.
President Paul announced next weeks meeting would be a DARE presentation.
The followiing week, June 20th is the installation dinner at Water's Edge.
