Program:  Peter Manley
Community Coalition, Old Lyme.
Speakers:  David Klein - Superintentent of Schools, Lyme, Old Lyme. Reverend Peter Vanderveer - Pastor of St. Anne's Church in Old Lyme.

The Coalition was formed 3 years ago by our speakers to provide a forum where community leaders could get together once a month and discuss common community issues.  20 people were initially invited with almost a 100% turnout.  Some of their topics have been core values, character, "benefit of a doubt", building a better community and "talk is cheap".  The group is not short term project oriented, but rather long term issues of ideals and goals for the community.  One of the issues they identified was the lack of downsized senior housing in Old Lyme.  Many still active seniors who would like to stay in town have very few options.  At an early meeting four skinheads attended, had their own agenda and wanted to be heard.  According to our speakers it was a rather threatening evening. There are currently a very active group of about 15 members who discuss the issues and carry back these respective thoughts to their agencies, firms or departments.
