Carroll Bowser read a very nice tribute poem in hobor of Marty's dad.

Announcements:
President Joan thanked the club members that attended the District seminars recently.
She also wants to have an organization meeting for our participation in a food booth to
be held the morning of October 2nd in conjunction with the bike/walk event.  This meeting
will be next week on 9/22.

Program;  Gerri Lewis introduced our District Governor, Julie Reppenhagen.
Julie lived on Long Island before moving to CT.   There she was involved in many church
and civic activities.  She became interested and active in the Red Cross, which she
joined as a full time executive when coming to CT.  She joined the Danbury Sunrise
Club in 1997 and was president in 2001-2002.  She and her husband live in Sherman, CT.
Julie thanked the O.S. Club for all we do.  She feels Rotary is really all about it's members
and their activities, not about the organization or it's governing hierarcy.  She emphasized
R.I. President Ray Klingsmith's motto of "Building Communities, Bridging Continents".
R.I. President Ray was an exchange student in South Africa and this experience has
influenced his dedication to youth services programs within Rotary.  DG Julie's District
Conference in Sturbridge Village will stress Rotarians partnering with civic groups to
improve our communities and environment.  She encouraged us all to think about this.
She also feels Rotarians should foster fellowship beyond our weekly meetings, we
should meet for picnics, dinners and the like.  She also outlined a pilot project our
District will be running called "Future Visions".  This program provides substancial
scholarships for recipients to pursue cultural avenues.  She also feels the Group Study
Exchange program should be more than a 4 week vacation, more should be
accomplished by both sending and receiving teams, more work related.  She also
discussed the "Purple Pinky" program where school age kids can get their 'pinkies
painted for a buck donation to Polio Plus.  She'd like to see more pro-active participation
rather than just donating monies to the project.  The last item she mentioned was the
little cardboard box all the clubs have next to the badge box which is for seeds and
guidance instuction for the poor folks in Haiti.  Let all put an extra buck or two in it.
