Community Grants Restore Full Capacity to The Estuary’s Kitchen
We are pleased to announce the successful installation of two new industrial ovens, a critical upgrade that restores the kitchen to full meal production capacity. This vital equipment replacement was made possible through a collaborative effort of community generosity, ensuring that area seniors continue to receive nutritious meals without interruption.
The purchase and installation of the new ovens was funded by generous grants from the Westbrook Foundation and the Rotary Clubs of Old Saybrook, Essex, Chester, Deep River, and Clinton, as well as funding assistance from the towns of Clinton, Essex, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook. This broad coalition of support highlights the region’s commitment to caring for its senior population.
Prior to this installation, the breakdown of the previous ovens caused significant challenges in serving the growing number of homebound residents who rely on this service. The new ovens allow the kitchen team to return to full-capacity production immediately. This upgrade ensures that meals are prepared with the speed and efficiency necessary to secure the sustainability of the program for the foreseeable future. The modernization of the kitchen facilities means that staff can continue to focus on the quality of the meals rather than struggling with unreliable machinery.
This investment by local foundations, civic clubs, and municipal governments demonstrates the area’s unified commitment to community welfare. By pooling resources, these organizations and towns have directly impacted the well-being of seniors across the region, ensuring that no resident goes hungry due to equipment failure.
The Estuary serves over 1,000 clients every year and provides roughly 100,000 meals through our nutrition program, which includes Meals on Wheels and congregate dining. These programs are supported in part by the Senior Resources - Agency on Aging with Title III funds made available under the Older Americans Act.
